It collects nothing.
HushHour collects no data of any kind. There is no account, no sign-up, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no analytics. The app makes no network requests at all — not on launch, not while you write, not ever.
Your files
Your documents are plain Markdown files in whatever folder you put them in. HushHour reads and writes them and does nothing else with them. They are not indexed, uploaded, synced or copied anywhere. Deleting the app leaves your files exactly where they were.
Settings
Your preferences — theme, font, spotlight mode, sound levels — are stored locally on your own machine in the standard configuration location for your system. They never leave it.
Sound
Typing sounds, background loops and soundscapes are produced on your machine from what ships with the app, plus any music files you put in its music folder yourself. Nothing is streamed and no audio service is contacted.
What we would have to say if there were more
There is no data controller to name for your documents, because none of it reaches us. We cannot show you your data, export it for you or delete it on your behalf — we have never had it. If you want a copy of your writing, it is already a folder of files you own.
The source
HushHour is open source under the MIT licence. If you would rather verify this than take our word for it, the code is at github.com/50hoursaweek/hushhour.
Changes
If this ever stops being true, this page changes before the release does. Last updated 11 October 2026.
